LA MURRINA MURANO

Since the sixties we know of a small glass factory, owned by a group of glass masters, called Murrina Furnace.

In the beginning, the main activity consisted of realizing few prestigious blown glass objects created by the artists, continuing until 1974. It’s exactly in 1974 that the small furnace was bought by a family coming from Milan, already dealing with the production of light fittings combining glass and metal. This is the start of a big change in the company, now organized and managed in a more marketing oriented way.

The brand La Murrina then became widespread all over the world, the collections becoming wider and increasingly precious. In a few years the firm developed and the structure became wider through the opening of a directional and logistic centre, as well as the opening of a productive plant for the metal parts of the light fittings. In the beginning of the eighties, the vertical integration of the firm took shape through the opening of the first mono-brand sale points in Rome and Milan: the innovative distribution choice is winning and it continues until today.

So far, La Murrina is a big reality in the production of Murano blown glass, approaching the worldwide markets and maintaining the old techniques of glass blowing in its plant based in Murano: our products are distributed in Italy through a network of direct mono-brand sale points and franchising shops and abroad through a commercial network which consists of 10 flagship stores in the most prestigious cities of the world and representative offices in many foreign countries.

In 2000 the firm has started its cooperation with important designers and architects. Thanks to their ideas they have contributed to add products of contemporary design in La Murrina collections, which are always created in accordance with the ancient techniques of glass blowing: Denis Santachiara, Paolo Deganello, Oscar Tusquets Blanca, Sottsass Associati and Sandro Santantonio are the co-operators of the firm for what concerns Research & Development of new products.
